The last bastion of dominance Microsoft has over any market seems to now include the Forex market. Although people are falling over themselves trying to get the latest version of iPhone, and everyone seems to be carrying around MacBooks in the airport, the Forex trader is clinging onto his Windows for dear life. So what of the new generation of business people that have abandoned Microsoft? Forex Mac has become a necessity that is not being properly addressed.
There are a few Forex brokers out there that boast being Mac user friendly. But even these brokers are not really providing a software solution to Forex Mac. Web based application is the best solution anyone has come up with, and for the Mac user who clicks on the banner ad of the Forex broker claiming to be able to trade Forex from your Mac, it is true...with a catch. Generally speaking, they are talking about a Java based application on your browser. It is not a horrible solution but far from optimal.
Your typical Forex trader is seen at his home office in front of two or three monitors, all running Windows. Admittedly, this is still the prevalent scenario. But the Forex Mac trader will be increasing in numbers, whether it is because he wants to trade from his iPhone, his iPad, his iPod Touch, or his MacBook that he has with him on the plane. The popularity of the hardware makes the need for the software indispensable. The Forex Mac user is the next big thing and having a web based application fit the need of the fast paced Forex market is bound to fall short.
The web based Java application used now for Forex Mac is not bad. It probably has the same functionality as any software download provided by any Forex broker. The fact that not every Forex broker out there doesn't offer a web based application for the Forex Mac user is, in itself, a little baffling. But whatever the case may be, the first Forex broker that offers a software download that doesn't include that .exe extension is going to be perceived as being a frontrunner in the industry.
The old school thinking of “business is conducted on Windows” is exactly that; old school. Steve Jobs has changed the paradigm and it is time for the Forex market to once again be a leader in online trading. There is an untouched sector waiting to be tapped and like everything else, the “first in” rule applies and will benefit the forward thinkers.
The Mac crowd are a dedicated bunch and will throw their allegiance behind those that support them. To be considered an afterthought with a web based application is not the attention they are seeking. A Mac user is not going to switch to Windows because a Forex broker does not support Mac. A Mac user will stay with Mac and find a Forex broker who is flexible enough to suit his needs.
